Vinegar Hill
The name Vinegar Hill derives from a small town we stumbled upon whilst visiting the wonderful islands of New Zealand. As a business we really wanted a name that summed up what an independent store should be all about – unique, original and interesting. And so the name of our business was born.
Too many high streets today are bland copies of themselves, where the giant chains have forced up property prices and put many of the nation’s wonderful small stores out of business, ultimately reducing the choice for consumers and the level of service offered to them. We don’t want to bang on about this but we feel quite passionately about the importance of independents on our high streets and make a point of personally shopping with independents whenever we can… To be fair this isn’t hard to do as it’s always a far more interesting and pleasant shopping experience.
Established in 1995, Vinegar Hill remains a close family run business. It is owned and managed by siblings Beth, Debbie and Richard Austin who have a passion for buying and creativity which has helped to develop a unique environment in our Lifestyle Stores. As the business has grown it has never lost sight of its original values, identity and philosophy – It still feels very much like an independent store and continues to offer impeccably designed products sourced from all over the world. It is this philosophy that sees our customers return again and again. We’re proud that the business still feels very much like when we first opened our doors.
It is (and this may sound a little scary) our obsession to offer a great shopping experience and we really want you to enjoy your visit to our stores. Our staff offer a level of service that’s second to none, their approachable manner and product expertise is something that we are very proud of. Shopping should never be a chore, and so if your experience in one of our stores doesn’t come up to scratch then just let us know and we will endeavour to do something about it.
We really hope you enjoy visiting our website. It’s been quite difficult trying to reflect the atmosphere and feel of our stores online, but hopefully this gives you just a glimpse of how it feels to walk through our doors.
